To use Gift Generator you must create an
application on your Facebook account.
Go to:
http://www.facebook.com/developers/
Once you Allow this application go to:
http://www.facebook.com/developers/createapp.php
- Enter the name of your Application
- Read and Agree to the Facebook Terms
- Click Create Application
You will now see a page similar to the below
image.
Click on Canvas on the left side menu.
The only field you will touch is the Canvas
Page URL (circled below).
Enter a name for your application url. No
spaces, capital letters, or numbers may be
used in this field. After typing in a name
click Save Changes.
If the name you entered is invalid or already
taking you will see a red box with an error
message at the top. Go back to Canvas and
try a different name until it is accepted.
Once a name is picked that is valid you will
be on your application summary page.
You will need to copy and paste the API Key
and Application Secret values into the fields
at the Gift Generator application. Do not
close this 'summary' page, it will be used
later.
Click Create once you paste the values into the fields.
Your application has now been added to Gift
Generator. It is time to customize your application!
You will notice the empty box to the left
of your application's name.
To add a icon/graphic for your application
revisit your application's summary page.
If you closed out of it you can access your
application settings by going to http://www.facebook.com/developers/ and clicking on your application on the
right.
Click on Edit Settings.
At the new page you can enter description,
and upload your icon/logos. Click Save Settings
when done. Do not touch anything other than
the Basic tab information.
The Header. You can create a banner/logo
for your application to be displayed at the
top of every page. Simply create the image,
click browse to select the image on your
computer and click Upload.
Advertisement Banner Code
This option allows you to earn some money
from your gift application. You can submit
your fb:iframe banner advertisement code
in this box to have your ad shown at the
bottom of your application. The code does
require approval to make sure no malicious
code was submitted so your ad will not show
until approved. RockYou Ads is the suggested
vendor for earning income from banner advertisements.
To add Categories and Gifts click on the
Gift Management button.
Click the Create New Category button
Type in the name for your category and click
Save.
Next click Edit Settings to assign that category to your application
by checking the box for that application.
You can assign the same category to multiple
applications.
Next to add gifts, click the Gifts button on the left side menu.
Click Create New Gift and enter the name of the gift. Click Save.
After you Save click Edit Settings.
- Browse your computer for the image of the
gift and then click Upload. The recommended size of the gift image
is 150px by 150px. Extensions accepted include
.gif, .jpg, .jpeg, and .png
- Input the cost for sending the gift.
- Input the value of coins a user must have
earned in order to be able to send the gift.
0 = everyone can send the gift.
- Input the name of the gift.
- Select the category you want the gift to
be associated with. If no category is selected
the gift will appear in the All category.
Click Save
Information on Coins, Cost of Gifts, and
Unlock Cost
Users receive 100 coins daily per application
they visit created with Gift Generator. Their
total coin balance is available for use on
all applications. Users can send 10+ gifts
a day. You will want to make the cost of
your gifts affordable to maximize the amount
of gifts that can be sent to help increase
your users. Recipients of gifts also receive
coins upon accepting the gift equal to 25%
of the cost of the gift received.
Unlock Cost. The value entered in this field
equals the amount of coins a user must have
spent to unlock that gift. If you set the
value to 500, then a user must have spent
500 coins to unlock the ability to send that
gift. This can be accomplished by sending
50 gifts that cost 10 coins, 1 gift that
costs 500, or by sending any variation of
gifts totaling to a cost of 500 coins.
At any time you can upgrade to the 'retail' version of your Gift Application!
